Pune Residents Meet with MP Medha Kulkarni to Address Noise Pollution and Illegal Commercial Activities

A crucial meeting was held on February 18, 2025, at the Additional Police Commissioner Office in Pune, to discuss the growing concerns of noise pollution and illegal commercial activities in residential areas. Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Mrs. Medha Kulkarni, chaired the meeting, which was attended by residents from Kalyani Nagar, Baner, Pashan, Viman Nagar, and surrounding areas.

Key Issues Raised:

– Illegal Functioning of Bars and Pubs: Residents complained about the illegal operation of bars, pubs, and rooftop restaurants in residential areas, causing noise pollution and disturbing the peace.
– Women Safety and Drugs: Concerns were raised about women’s safety and the issue of drugs in these establishments.
– Rollback of Timing: Residents requested a rollback of the timing from 1:30 am to 11:30 pm for these establishments.
– Illegal Land Use Changes: The issue of illegal land use changes from residential to commercial was highlighted, resulting in restaurants, bars, and pubs in residential buildings.
– Noise Pollution: The impact of noise pollution on senior citizens, students, and overall public health was emphasized.
– Sale of Alcohol: Residents complained about the sale of alcohol in residential areas near societies, schools, and temples.
– Open Drinking and Encroachments: Issues of open drinking, harassment of women, and encroachments on footpaths and roads by tapris near alcohol shops were also raised.

Assurances and Actions:

MP Medha Kulkarni assured the residents that strict action will be taken against the violators. She has sought files pertaining to permissions granted to bars, pubs, and liquor shops and requested a fresh survey of the licenses granted.

The residents expressed gratitude to MP Medha Kulkarni for her commitment to resolving this long-standing issue and reiterated their dedication to making their residential areas safe and peaceful.
